Synopsis:
A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle.
Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.
The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?

Crystal's Review:
The story was a really well put together story. It has lots of action and lots of danger. The story follows a girl who witnesses her parents get killed by a sorcerer when she is about 13 or 14. All that is left is her and her twin brother. Instead of getting taken away by an army they cut off her hair and have her pretend to be a boy so she doesn't get put into the house of girls. At this house men take advantage of women and rape them to grow their army. She is now 17 and in charge of protecting the prince. That is when the crazy kicks in. There are many secrets and twists and turns. I will not give away any spoilers. I will say it is action packed and a love story built in one. I will tell you it is not a happily ever after. It is a great ending though. It will make you wonder when the second book will be written and what is going to happen in that one. This story is full of magic, heroism, kings, princes and sorcerers. It was a very interesting read and I kept wanting to read more. If you are into action or love stories or ones with twists and turns that keep you guessing this is the story for you.
