K E Osborn's 'Trust Me?' Trilogy Book Blitz: Excerpts & Limited Time Sale

Book 1: Trust Me?

Book Description:

This book is for mature audiences 18+ It contains explicit language and sexual content.

Jenifer Taylor is content with her life, dull and boring as it is. Being absent from the dating scene means she doesn’t have to deal with the major trust issues she has with men that stem from a controlling and aggressive ex-boyfriend and an absentee father.  She’s happy being alone, sharing her life with her friends and family.

When Jeni starts a typical day in the big city of Mornington Vale, California, it turns from bad to worse when she’s involved in a chain collision on her way to work.
Her world changes forever that day because she meets Aiden O’Connell, the billionaire son of Alistair O’Connell, who owns Mornington Vale’s largest financial corporation. Aiden is an up-and-coming young businessman who's ready to take on the vice presidency of his father’s company. He is the good son, and it’s imperative to Alistair that Aiden succeed and follow in his footsteps. Life for Aiden involves working hard and not much else.

After the accident, however, Aiden’s world changes as well. He finds Jeni irresistible and instantly pursues her. With some coaxing, she eventually agrees to a date, and the attraction is mutual.

Jeni finds love quickly with Aiden, but trusting him is another issue.  When to trust is tested in many different ways but comes to a head when Aiden is investigated for a serious crime.  As her trust issues spark, she is forced to go through a journey of self-discovery.

She must decide once and for all whether she trusts the man she loves when she’s asked the ultimate question: “Do you trust me?”

This is book one in a series of three.  Book two "Love Me?" was released on November 18th, 2013.

Short Excerpt Trust Me?

I turn to face him; he puts his other arm around me. We are in the same position as before when the last kiss attempt failed. My arms are tight around his neck, his arms around my waist. I look down. He lifts up my chin so I’m lost in his gaze. His hand goes back to my waist. He swallows; I think he’s as nervous as I am. He tilts his head and leans in … I back away quickly.
“What’s wrong?” he asks, looking hurt.
“Oh, no, it’s not you. I think … I might have garlic breath.”
He laughs and pulls me back to him. “So do I.” He pulls me in tighter, and before I know what’s happening, his lips are on mine. I give in and surrender to him completely.
This feels like one of my fantasies, only way, way better. He holds me tight as one hand moves from my waist to caress my cheek, kissing me softly but sensually. My hands move to the back of his head, and I grab a lock of hair in each hand. He moves our bodies so that I’m against the railing at the edge of the deck. He moves his hand from my waist to hold the rail as I still grasp his hair. The kissing becomes feverishly passionate; his tongue against mine as they intertwine with each other. Our breathing becomes faster and erratic. Our kissing becomes more intimate. We are in perfect sync with each other. I pull him closer to me, our whole bodies touching. My heart is pounding fast and hard. His hand moves from my face to the back of my head, pulling me tight. He moves my hair from the side of my neck, breaks our kiss and kisses my neck slowly and seductively. I sigh and breathe in a stuttering motion. I open my eyes to see the waitress standing there, gawking at us. I stiffen as I see her. He pulls back and looks at me. With my eyes, I gesture toward the waitress. He turns, looks, and lets out a little huff. He leans in towards me.
“Now that’s a first kiss,” he whispers as he grabs my hand and leads me over to the table. I can’t help but smile.

Aiden and Jeni find themselves going through more trials and tribulations than ever before in this second installment of the Trust Me? Trilogy. In the end, Jeni will be asked the ultimate question: Do you still love me?

Short Excerpt Love Me?

My nerves start to get the better of me, I start to feel nauseous; those darn pesky butterflies attack again. I’m not sure why I’m nervous, whether it’s the shoes making me unstable or whether it’s the memory of our first date, our first touch, or our first kiss that’s making me bashful.
I turn the corner to see him standing there with a bunch of red roses, in the suit that he changed into earlier, this time with a baby pink tie on. Behind him is that gorgeous waterfall cascading down the cliff with the lush greenery surrounding us. As I take a step closer, I hear music playing. “Thank You for Loving Me” by Bon Jovi. It’s our song. I feel my eyes welling up as all the emotion and love I feel for this man is becoming too much to bear. His smile is beaming from ear to ear when I approach. Finally I reach him. He holds out his hand for me to take. I take it, and he pulls me into a tight embrace. “This is perfect,” I whisper.“Perfection for perfection, my love.” He kisses my cheek, and places the bouquet of flowers on the railing.

Blog Tour: Jack Getze's 'Big Numbers' Review & Giveaway

Synopsis:
Laugh at divorced dad Austin Carr, a funny, oversexed scamp who'll do anything to get his kids back. Think Bugs Bunny with guns and a penis.

Divorced dad Austin Carr wakes up every day in a beat-up camper, parked on someone else’s private property. Why? Because his alimony and child support payments were established by New Jersey’s family court system when his income was double, and for the last two years he has failed to earn the legally mandated monthly nut. He’s had his savings drained, his Maxima repossessed, his salary attached, and his visiting rights suspended. He bought the twelve-year-old Chevy pick-up with the rusty camper for $800 last month because another landlord tossed his butt in the street. Will stretching the rules, his own morals, and the boundaries of common sense raise the cash needed to get his kids back? Or will his big mouth and bad behavior set him up for a nasty double-cross? See if Austin can redeem himself and win back his children.

--Connie Anderson for Armchair Interviews

“Indiana Jones has his whip and Luke Skywalker has his light saber, but for Austin Carr, his full-boat grin is the weapon of choice.”
--Melissa for Lou Reads

“Jack Getze started his career as a newspaper reporter. As a result, BIG NUMBERS is lean and mean, with not a word wasted. A truly fun, genuinely funny read.”

My Review:

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was unlike anything I've ever read before. I have read a ton of mysteries in my life, but none quite like this one. This book manages to be both funny and witty, while still being a legitimate mystery. The main character, Austin Carr, made me laugh throughout the story, both with and at him. The plot takes you on twists and turns. This book is genuinely entertaining on multiple levels.

'Big Numbers' tells the story of Austin Carr. Carr is a down on his luck stockbroker who is both divorced and a father. Because of his financial troubles he is unable to pay his alimony and child support which means he isn't allowed to see his kids. The story centers around his attempts to get the money needed to see his children again. He embarks on a series of crazy misadventures in the form of a scheme to get fast cash and basically has the worst luck possible. The story escalates and madness ensues. I don't want to give away the story, but the bottom-line is: be glad you aren't Austin Carr.

First off I need to talk about Austin. He is hilarious and maybe just a touch delusional. He is in pretty much the worst position possible, but he genuinely believes that his charm and charisma will get him out of every situation. He's such an odd duck. He is so sure of himself and his ability to succeed, yet I wouldn't necessarily call him egotistical. He's kind of an enigma to me, but one I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

The story itself is beautifully written with interesting plot twists and well developed characters you can really sink your teeth into. It is action packed right from the get go and I literally couldn't stop reading until the very end. I ended up finishing the book in a number of hours in one sitting (and I'm not a crazy fast reader). I had a hard time figuring out who I, as a reader, should trust throughout the story and really had no idea where it was going to end up. I find it refreshing that I couldn't easily predict what would happen and who turned out to be evil and who turned out to be good. It's so easy for mysteries to be overly obvious and on the other end of the spectrum mysteries can go the other route and pull cheap tricks and omissions to make sure you don't figure out the end. This book didn't do either of those things. It was a genuinely well-written and intriguing mystery.

I highly recommend this book. It's a quick read with amazing characters and an unpredictable plot. It is not your everyday mystery novel and I love it for that. Jack Getze is clearly an incredible talent and I cannot wait to read the follow-up books to 'Big Numbers'. I give it a solid 5 out of 5 star rating.

Excerpt:

It’s dark when I wake, except for the glow of the television. There’s no sound, but the movie we started watching earlier is playing; again, I presume, because I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen this part before. I can’t remember what it was about, aside from that it was a nineties adaption of Jane Austen’s Emma, the Californian accents all too uncomfortably familiar.
I blink a couple of times, stretching out. My arm collides with something solid, and I freeze, realizing that I’m not alone on the couch. Glancing upwards, I find myself looking into emerald eyes that seem to be illuminated in the soft light.
Oh, that’s right.
I quickly scramble to sit up, only to pause again the next second, my balance wavering. I’m half on Dean’s lap, and his hands shoot out to my waist to steady me before I fall off. A small wave of dizziness flows through me, and though I’m acutely aware of Dean’s fingers pressing into my side, a sweater the only thing between our skin, I’m glad that he has hold of me.
“Hey.” I take a deep breath in before exhaling. The hand I’ve placed on his shoulder burns like fire, and there’s an intensity building that scares me to death, but I can’t quite bring myself to pull away. In fact, instead of moving away from Dean like I should, I’m acutely aware that we’re so close, his breath tickling the loose strands of hair around my face.
“Hi.” His voice is thick from sleep. He tucks one behind my ear, his fingers hovering over the side of my face for a fraction of a second before pulling away. I want to lean in to his touch.
I shift my gaze away from his. This is not me. I’m not the kind of girl who melts when a guy looks at her. Especially one I still don’t know that well.
Lies, a voice hisses inside my head. You do know this boy, better than you think. Better than you want to know.
“You looked so peaceful; I didn’t want to wake you.” I could feel his words rumble in his chest. My lips turn up in a small smile. He was watching me sleep?
A quick look down at his watch told me it was well after midnight. I don’t even want to know how many texts Rosie’s sent to find out where I am. The thought alone sends a blush across my face.
“I didn’t mean to fall asleep. It’s been a long week.”
Dean nodded. “Midterms are an ass.”
I shift slightly, moving my weight into the dip between his legs, alleviating the pressure on his own, but he didn’t seem to mind. Instinctively, as if he thought I was about to run off, his fingers bunched the edges of my sweater together, holding on to me tighter.
I’m not going anywhere.
“What are you doing for Thanksgiving?”
I look down, at his chest. It rises slowly with his heartbeat, calm and even. How can he be so relaxed? I can feel the tension knotting its way through my own body. The v neck of his sweater dips low, small swirls of hair escaping up. I wonder what it would feel like to run my hand across his chest.
I blink. Question. He’d asked a question.
“Uh, nothing, as of yet. Study? Maybe. What about you?”
My voice sounds as if I just swallowed helium. His he as affected by me as I am of him?
I wouldn’t know. I can’t look him directly in the eye, so I concentrate on a spot on the wall, just below his ear. Brown locks curl around the nape of his neck, and it takes all of my self-control to not stretch out and play with them. What was it about the darkness that made us so bold?
“Come home with me. Have Thanksgiving with my family.”
I straighten up. Hands tighten around my waist, preparing for me to bolt. I don’t give in to my instinct to run. With all the heat that was passing between us, what did going home with him mean?
And why was my brain screaming at me to say yes?

Review: Alexa Nazzaro's 'The Pool Theory'

The Pool Theory by Alexa Nazzaro
Publication Date: June 19, 2013
Publisher: Two Pigeons Press

Synopsis:

After years of feeling like a loser, fifteen year old Kye Penton finally has it made. With his new friend, Julian, and the cutest girl in English class by his side, it looks like his days of being a social outcast are ancient history. Until Annie Cooper shows up: pregnant and claiming the baby is his. Kye's life quickly unravels as he's pulled into a nightmare bigger than any bullying he has ever survived.

A contemporary novel that doesn't shy away from the dark side of adolescence, The Pool Theory is an honest depiction of what it means to live out the so-called best years of your life when all you want to do is disappear off the face of the earth.

We have a new reviewer here at the blog! Please welcome Christina McPherson-Mock!!

Christina is a stay at home anthropologist who is currently studying the state of mental health of parents of tweens. A native of Seattle, she is currently trapped in the suburbs of DC while waiting for the Navy to send her, and the rest of her family back to the west coast. She is a lover of all things geek and is an avid collector of Hello Kitty.

Christina's Review:

This is perhaps one of the hardest reviews I have ever written, and to be honest with you, this book is still gnawing at me. I have a feeling that the reviews on this book are going to run the gamut, depending on whom it is that is doing the review.

Kye is a fifteen year old, socially awkward, high school sophomore. He and his best friend Anthony live life on the periphery, hoping not to catch the attention of the school bullies. The newest addition to their social group, Julian, seems to straddle the line between social outcast and possible hipster, a situation which often leads to conflict between the three boys.

Annie is a fifteen year old that goes to a different school than Kye. She worked as a lifeguard at the community pool over the previous summer and actively flirted with both Kye and Julian. One night the three go to the pool after hours and one thing leads to another until Kye’s “pool theory” is tested. You can’t get pregnant in a pool, can you?

Ms. Nazzaro has created characters that touchingly capture the neuroses of teenagers. The angst, the hope, the self-doubt, is all there in its shining glory in each of the characters. While they are not all likeable, I don’t think they are intended to be, they are all well developed and evolve throughout the book. We see relationships in the eyes of teens, from family, to the lifelong friend, to the secret crush…they all change as we grow into adulthood. Some relationships become more important than others along the way.

As a parent, to both a son and a daughter—both preteens, I want them to read this book. It is an exceptionally moving account of teen pregnancy and the myriad of emotions and consequences both Kye & Annie go through, as well as their families. It is gritty at times and pulls no punches, but it is for precisely that reason that it could be used as a teaching tool. I liked the discussion guide at the end and could easily see this becoming a part of a health education curriculum, assuming there are still school districts out there that are willing to accept the simple fact that teens are and will have sex, that’s a fact of life. I can easily see too how many parents would be up in arms over this book if they themselves don’t take the time to read it. There is a lot of discussion of abortion, however other methods of dealing with the pregnancy are discussed as well. It does take a very mature look at exactly what you are dealing with as a pregnant teen.

As a reader, with my own history, there are so many of my own memories that came rushing back. The Pool Theory is an excellent coming of age story that has its funny moments as well as its heartbreaking ones.

I would be remiss though, if I were caught up in the message of the book and not talk about the actual story at all. We are offered a glimpse into the psyche of a fifteen-year-old boy, and it is interesting to see how quickly hispriorities change when he is forced to accept responsibilities for his actions. As much as he would like to continue living his life, such as his pursuit of Claudia—more awkwardness caught in all its glory, he begins to understand that life has changed, and he has to make the best of it.

The Pool Theory could easily have been a five star book, but the ending did not work for me. I understand the author left it open for the reader to draw his or her own conclusions, however I would have preferred more closure. The book was a fast, easy read and very well written, definitely worthy of four stars. While the ending was unsatisfactory to me, I would hate to see this written into a series as I think it might detract from the message it is trying to send.
