My Review:

I was asked for an honest review of the first book in the Going to the Dogs series, the novella Leashed.

I was immediately attracted to and excited for this book. I am a HUGE fan of dogs and animals in general. I had no idea what this book was about going in, but I immediately knew I would most likely like it, and I was correct. I loved this story so much! It is a very quick, short read at around 26,000 words, but the story was in no way forced or rushed. The story was ridiculously sweet and loveable, and the characters are all really well developed in such a short amount of words.

The story begins by introducing us to Callie. Callie lives in New York and comes from a family of Great Dane dog breeders. She owns a dog obedience school and lives with her favorite boy, Jack the Great Dane. Having an admitted bad boy addiction she tends to avoid men in general aside from her dad, brother, and Jack. Caleb, the ridiculously hot and womanizing man living across the hall from her, owns a hot New York night club and due to his troubled childhood avoids commitment when it comes to women. When Jack meets Caleb's dog Jill the dogs fall in love. The dogs end up forcing Callie and Caleb to interact and they have an instant physical chemistry. They both try to avoid becoming romantically involved, thus forming a strong friendship before things begin to evolve into more.

Callie and Caleb were so much fun to read about. They both drove me a little crazy at first, but I could understand why they both tried to avoid forming a romantic relationship. Their chemistry and banter were so sweet and real. The other two main characters, Jack and Jill, were also so adorable together. I honestly felt like Zoe Dawson wrote this story just for me. It had everything I could want in a book; between the puppy love and the human love and Dawson's slightly snarky comedy.

The writing and dialogue were funny and witty and reminiscent of the writing on Sex and the City. I ended up reading the whole novella in a couple of hours (I'm generally not a very fast reader) because I just couldn't put it down. The book introduced the reader to characters that are in the next books as well and I cannot wait to get my hands on the them. I am just so excited to know a book series exists that combines romance, dogs, and fun, witty characters in a hip urban setting. This is a must read for any dog lover who also happens to love reading romantic stories.
